Question by Jeff: Did Direct TV fry my TV and DVD?
I just moved and switched from cable to Direct TV. At one point during installation tech called me into the room and asked me how to turn TV on. I pushed power button and got no power – it was totally dead. TV is 2 years old and was working fine. At this point I thought maybe it broke in move so I pulled a spare TV from closet and swapped. A few days later my wife tried to use DVD/VCR combo (also 2 yrs old) and had same problem – no power. Both pieces were plugged in when tech did install and both pieces now are dead. Stereo receiver and CD player were on same power strip and work fine. Wondering if Direct TV either fried my equipment in installation or maybe signal was sent to disable equipment. If so, can signal be canceled. Any info or direction would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer by Ron Burgundy
There is no signal that would effect your tv or vcr.The only thing could have been some sort of power surge.

Question by Matt: Recommendations for a Portable Power Generator for football game tailgate parties?
I’m looking for a portable power generator to run a TV and Direct TV at our tailgates. I’ve researched the Honda EU1000i, Coleman Powermate 1800, and Subaru 1000w generators. I think the Honda is the best but also much more money than I want to spend. I would like a generator that will not have to be filled constantly, not too loud, and will last a while. My budget is $ 300-$ 400. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is the Coleman a good piece of equipment? How loud is it? Thanks

Answer by Beagle
By far the Honda is the best. Quiet and easy start. I have 3 Honda EU2000i’s in my business. Honda rocks.

Guess I should add… I have never used a Subaru. Coleman Powermate is just ok.

Question by w111 t: work safety on dc as well as electrical equipment?
I work on a plant where my workers have to trouble shoot low DC control voltage circuits besides high voltages ac running machines which are operated by inverters as well as from direct ac power
Need a document or some tips to prevent electrical shocks and for electrician guidance

Best answer:

Answer by Mike B
Work only in dry environments. No water on the floor.

Plug AC powered test equipment into a GFCI protected circuit.

Really no safety issues on DC voltages under 50V.

Only handle electrical leads with one hand. Keep the other in your pocket.

Rubber mats to stand on.

Rubber gloves worn inside leather gloves

Face shield and arc-flash rated clothing when working on anything over 50VAC.

Question by H. A. C.: What equiment do I need to set up a high power fm radio transmitter?
Let’s say 3000w or more…
I have aquired a frequency in my town (In Honduras) and I don’t know anything about fm radio equipment. Can someone direct me as to what equipment I need for the broadcast room, trasmitter, antenna, etc.?
This will be a Christian radio station and I want to cover about 300 miles radious, in a mountainous area…

Answer by radioboyalan
Do you have a construction permit to build the station?

If so, it will specify the power level.

I would recommend this site:

http://www.ccbroadcasters.com

This is a site for Christian LPFMs, but you will be able to get an idea of what you need from the equipment lists they have. You will be looking at a transmitter at higher power levels than LPFMs.

You will need a broadcast console (mixer) and components for audio sources, such as computers, CD players and such. Most Christian stations have a satellite dish and receiver for bringing in Christian programming from networks.

You will need an engineer. The voltage on this size transmitter is dangerous and can be fatal if you don’t know what you are doing. The FM set-ups genarally require a device known as an FM exciter, and an audio chain for processing and monitoring.

Best wishes to you!
