Are you trying to power 120 Volt or 12 Volt electrical equipment? Either way you’re looking at nearly 400 amps of additional load on the vehicle and that’s a waaaay lot.

If your equipment is 120 volt it would be much easier and cheaper to install a generator. Some generators even have regulated outputs that are very precise and surge-protected for sensitive equipment.

If your equipment is 12 volt (such as a rack of amplifiers) then you’re looking at adding a couple (or more) alternators and may need custom bracketry and fanbelts to drive them. I was at a car stereo competition years ago and there were vehicles with up to 6 alternators. The problem you will find is alternators are rated at their maximum output, not what they put out at idle. Even a 230 amp alternator may put out less than 100 amps at idle. Look for alternators built specifically for use while idling if this is your situation – either industrial vehicles or special alternators designed for stereo competition with high output at low rpms. If I was you I would research what types of industrial uses the Sprinter has been modified for and some of them may have already solved the very problem you’re having.

Question by The Wonderful Jimmy Page: What would be the best way to power equipment in a remote location with no available electricity?
I need to power a few printers and a laptop computer for a small business. I will be working in remote locations out of my van, so ideally the power source should be renewable, and able to be accessed for about 12 hours each day. The entire setup must be portable ( fit into a commercial van ) and ideally cost only as much as necessary. Does anybody have any suggestions?

a generator would be your only real choice. just make sure you pack enough gas. solar is not reliable (inclement weather) and you would have to pack too much equip. a small generator is also not too expensive and u can buy them in various watt outputs to suit what you will need.

Question by Free Bird: How would you feel if this was you & would it change your opinion on illegal immigration?
A woman who purchased a Texas woman’s name and social security number to get a job in Alamance County was charged with identity theft.

Alamance County Sheriff’s Department received a call from Veronica Arias of Combes, Texas last week. Arias reported to authorities that someone was using her name and social security number, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

“Mrs. Arias has been contacted by the Internal Revenue Service in reference to unreported earnings in Alamance County,” the release states. “The Social Security Administration advised her that the individual was using her social security number for employment with Honda Power Equipment in Swepsonville.”

Honda officials verified that they had an employee using that name and social security number. After an investigation, the sheriff’s department determined that Maria Sanchez, 30, of Ivey Road, Graham was allegedly using Arias’ information.

“Mrs. Sanchez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, advised that she purchased the name and social security number but refused to discuss how the information was obtained,” the release states.

Sanchez was charged with identity theft and was placed in Alamance County jail under $ 10,000 bond.

I have no tolorance for illegal immigrants.

They CLEARLY understand they are breaking (many) laws both in coming here, and staying here. It’s mind boggling to see people step up to defend such wrongful actions in defense of the ILLEGALS.

The best way is to get a phantom power supply. The mic. specs. says it requires +48 volts. Make sure the supply can provide the same voltage. The link below leads to one from the same vendor that will do the trick.

Question by Random: would this winch work for my jeep wrangler?

http://www.amazon.com/Champion-Power-Equipment-14501-4500-lb/dp/B002CPXYZY/ref=sr_1_543?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1289690376&sr=1-543

its a 4500lb winch so i could probably use it, but i think its meant for a atv

http://www.amazon.com/VORTEX-Pound-Recovery-Package-TRAILER/dp/B001TQPP18/ref=sr_1_565?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1289690460&sr=1-565

that one says its used for cars, but its only 500lbs more then the other one, is there a difference as far as either one working or not working for mine, its a 95 jeep wrangler se, 31 inch tires, nothing really else that would add weight, 3 inch body lift, idk if that does anything in this situation

At only 4500 to 5000 lbs of line pull, I would not use on a JEEP Wrangler. You need at least a 8000 lb. winch to be on the safe side. Remember that the 4500 lb. rating is on the first wrap of cable on the drum. As the cable is wound back on the drum the amount of line pull deceases, so that by the time the drum is full, you have lost about half your rated pulling power. Check with a local off-road parts warehouse for the proper winch for your Jeep.
